This old colliery site was reclaimed in the 1980s and now the Glapwell Countryside site is a place to enjoy nature, walking, cycling and horse riding.

Barbecues are not permitted at any of our sites.

How to find us

An alternative car park is at the Peter Fidler Reserve at the far end of the Stockley Trail.

Both car parks are included in our horse box parking scheme. You'll need a permit and key, contact Tapton Lock Visitor Centre on tel: 01629 533020 for details.

Wildlife

The site has various habitats for wildlife including Stockley ponds and surrounding woodland. With links to the nearby Peter Fidler and Doe Lea Local Nature Reserve birds, mammals and insects all make this area their home.

Mountain bike trails

We have an exciting 2km mountain bike trail. The blue grade trail is suitable for riders wanting something a little more adventurous than the nearby Stockley Trail.

It's ideal for occasional or more experienced cyclists and reasonably fit families. A perfect introduction to mountain biking for all ages.

You might also want to try another local adventure bike trail at Williamthorpe Nature Reserve on the Five Pits Trail.

Multi-user trail

Walkers, cyclists and horse riders can all enjoy easy access to the southern end of the Stockley Trail and, a short distance away, the Phoenix Greenways and begin to explore further.
